An hour later, and Kurt has quite a gathering in his meeting room. He holds Blaine’s hand tight in his own as they sit together, silent with the gravity of the situation. Wes had shown up just a few minutes ago, and was now poring over the paper with a notepad to hand, making notes on every little detail. Kurt keeps his eyes firmly fixed on the table in front of him, feeling sickened by the very sight of that tabloid.
“This shouldn’t be too difficult to fight,” Wes speaks only when he’s absolutely certain he’s read and seen everything there is to read and see. “I imagine the opposing lawyer will argue that no trespassing has gone out. No one has actually stepped foot on your property, judging by the angle of these photos. They must have been the other side of your fence. But there’s a precedence for that not being enough. So long as you have a case for invasion of privacy, it doesn’t matter where the photographs were taken.”
“How could anyone not think those were an invasion of privacy?” Kurt demands, trying to keep his anger (and tears) in check only because he knows Wes is his friend, his brother-in-law, and only trying to help.
“I doubt the thought even crossed their mind,” Wes shrugged, not sure how best to explain without causing any more upset. “Media these days, all anyone cares about is getting the photos out in the public eye. Once that’s happened, it doesn’t matter if they’re forced to take them down. The point is they’ve been seen, they’ve been sold to other news agencies in other states, other countries. They’ve done what they’ve set out to do already, regardless of what I do next. And they can afford any fine you demand of them.”
“How do we stop these going anywhere else?” Blaine asks before Kurt can panic, keeping a firm grip on his husband’s hand. He’s scared, too, but he’s always tended to be better at handling this sort of thing. He knows he signed up for it when he married the hottest thing to ever come out of Parsons. But like Kurt, he’s not happy about their children being forced into the limelight as well. They didn’t choose their Papa’s lifestyle. “Can we stop them.”
“There’ll be a way,” Wes promises, sure of it even if he can’t come up with a strategy right that second. He’s definitely heard of cases like this before. “Leave it with me. I’ve already cancelled all my appointments for the day.”
“Me too,” Kurt sighs, dropping his head down heavily onto Blaine’s shoulder. He can’t concentrate on his work, now. He needs to be with Blaine and Peter, be there for when Christopher and Alice get off school. “Thank you, Wes. I don’t know what we’d do without you, sometimes.”
“Hey, we’re family, right?” Wes smiles as he packs up his notebook and the paper, clicking his briefcase shut. “This is what family do. Look after each other.”
It’s true, and those words make Kurt hug his husband and children that little bit closer to him that afternoon, when everyone’s safely reunited.
And when Wes wins the dispute with the paper, somehow making those photos (and all photos taken candidly of Kurt’s family in the future) private property of Kurt and Blaine, Kurt makes sure he takes his friend out for the best dinner and drinks money can buy. Wes never charges them a penny for his services, and whilst Kurt returns the favour by never charging him a penny for any clothes he might want, he’ll always make sure something special happens on his credit card.
Because they’re family. And they look after each other.

Not to be off topic, but how would you feel, and totes feel free to say no, baby, no harm no foul, just wanted to ask you first before I put it out there to the public, but I'm so addicted to Switched at Birth (I started learning ASL because of it) , and I kind of wanted to do some sort of au story/thread/oneshot/something with Blaine as a deaf student. So much of Blaine is about his voice, his singing ability, I wanted to see what it was like to not have that, even if he'd be in the deaf glee club like they featured in S1 of Glee. Instead of SAB characters, I could replace them with Glee characters if that made it more accessible overall. Like an AU, meets Kurt for the first time in HS as a student of Haverbrook instead of Dalton, whatever year you prefer of course, and I'd make them in the same grade for ease.
